According to Game Developers Research, their new study shows the iPhone platform is more popular with game developers than either the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP. Electronista sums up:
Demand for the iPhone has surged to where about 19 percent of all game developers are writing for the iPhone and iPod touch. The figure is more than twice as high as for the DS and PSP and results in three quarters of all mobile game developers writing for Apple’s handhelds.
While no reasons were cited for the level of developer interest in the iPhone and iPod touch, they figure the high visibility of the Apple brand combined with robust developer tools and centralized App Store model makes for a compelling package. 75 million devices on the market probably doesn’t hurt either…
Good news for iPhone, iPod touch, and eventually iPad gamers — with developers come great games.

4th Generation iPhone Code Named N89; iPod touch G4, N80
BY Elliot on Tuesday, February 2nd 2010 under: UncategorizedEnagdget tipsters, digging deep into the iPad’s iPhone 3.2 SDK and iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, have found more evidence of the 4th generation iPhone (likely to ship this June/July) namely it’s code name — N89.
Buried way inside the platform simulator lies a set of folders dedicated to specific models of iPhone OS-ready devices, including the iPhone 3GS, second generation iPod touch, something called the “K48? (yep, the codename we were told was the internal name for the iPad), and… the “N89.” Sure, it sounds like a Nokia phone just waiting to happen, but this is — according to our extremely knowledgeable and trusted sources — likely the codename of the next iPhone (previous versions were called the M68, N82, and N88).
There’s also news on the 4th generation iPod touch as well (likely to ship this September):
Apple’s just released firmware (3.1.3) also includes another new model, the “N80,” which we’re told will most likely be the next version of the iPod touch.
Sure, they’re little details for now, but there’s always more to come… it’s really only a matter of time.
Will Apple’s iPad Get Jailbreak and How Long Will it Take?
BY Elliot on Monday, February 1st 2010 under: Uncategorized
The good news is, unlike the iPhone, Apple is selling the iPad 3G unlocked, so there’ll be no need for redsn0w or blacksn0w. Just pop in a Micro-SIM and you can use it on any network you want.
The bad news, however, is; Apple has really stepped up to the plate when it comes to combatting the jailbreak. With their new iPhone Platform Security Manager and hardware changes and the patching of software exploits like the 24kpwn, which no longer works on the latest iPhone 3GS and iPod touch G3 models, there is no doubt in our minds it will take a good while. Another point is it seems Geohot has gone to the enemy and started cracking Sony Playstation, we’ll just have to persuade him to come back, eh?
So, to anyone looking to pick up a iPad and jailbreak it when it is released, I hope you have a good amount of patience and a lot of spare time.
And then again, even if it did get jailbroken, what would you like to see, from my point of view, backgrounder, growl push notifications and summerboard are all I want, can’t apple just sneak them into the next update!?

Possible iTablet/ iSlate pictures leaked?
BY Elliot on Wednesday, January 27th 2010 under: Uncategorized
Engadget posts a possible image of what appears to be the Apple Tablet.
Okay, we obviously can’t confirm this, but we just got two very interesting images of what certainly looks like a prototype Apple tablet, or what could be the tablet bolted down to a table. It’s big — really big — and it’s running what clearly looks like an iPhone app, although we’ve never seen an iPhone app with that interface or at that resolution before.
The site isn’t convinced that the image is legitimate. The device appears to have a very iPhone-like Maps application with UI elements consistent with the current iPhone. Obviously, the screen is much larger with a much larger viewing area. There appears to be a home button at the bottom of the device, and a Wi-Fi signal near the top with “No Service” indicating no cellular service at the time the photo was taken.
The black cloaking could be consistent with security measures in place by Apple according to a 2009 New York Times article:
Work spaces are typically monitored by security cameras, this employee said. Some Apple workers in the most critical product-testing rooms must cover up devices with black cloaks when they are working on them, and turn on a red warning light when devices are unmasked so that everyone knows to be extra-careful, he said.
Update: Engadget has updated its story with another image from the same source, this one somewhat blurry but showing an iPhone placed on top of the tablet for size comparison.
Analytics firm spots 50 suspected Apple tablets running iPhone OS 3.2
BY Elliot on Monday, January 25th 2010 under: UncategorizedAbout 50 devices matching the characteristics of Apple’s forthcoming tablet have been tracked from the company’s Cupertino, Calif., campus, with the devices reportedly being used to test iPhone applications.
Mobile analytics firm Furry released new statistics this week on what it claims are approximately 50 devices that were “reliably” placed on Apple’s campus. The company has alleged that the devices are pre-release tablets in testing, and that testing increased dramatically in January. Such devices were first spotted in October of 2009.
Flurry found that the unknown hardware was running iPhone OS 3.2, an unreleased version of Apple’s mobile operating system. If the tracking proves accurate, it could mean that rumors of a tablet running iPhone OS 4.0 could be off the mark.
Peter Farago, VP of of Marketing with the firm, noted that Flurry believes the devices running iPhone OS 3.2 are tablets because the hardware, when asked via software, did not identify itself as an iPhone. He also said that some devices testing iPhone OS 4.0 have been spotted — but they leave the Cupertino campus, while those running iPhone OS 3.2 do not.
In addition, Farago said the applications tested on the new device fell in line with what the tablet is expected to feature, with a strong focus on reading and news. Further details, including what specific applications were accessed, could not be share due to the company’s terms of service.
“If you were able to see the data we see, at the level of granularity,” Farago said, “it would be clear to you as well.”
Flurry tracked which applications were downloaded and launched from the new, unseen hardware. Of more than 200 applications tested, the vast majority were games, the firm found.
“Historically, tablet devices have been considered substitutes for anything where workers use clipboards, note pads or day runners,” the report said. “In more industrial settings, they could be used for inventory management, taking purchase orders or data entry. However, there was a surprising dearth of applications that support these use cases. Instead, the largest category was games. ”
Following that, the most utilized categories were entertainment, news & books, lifestyle, utilities, music and photography. The firm noted that there was a strong trend toward news, books and media consumption.
