iPhone 4 unlock in the next 48hours

The iPhone Dev-Team Members MuscleNerd and Planetbeing has confirmed that even though the unlock for iPhone 4 with ultrasn0w is ready and all, they will still do thorough testing in the next 48 hours to make sure everything is working before it is released to public. This is what they said on their respective Twitter accounts:

Planetbeing: We will be releasing the unlock in 48 hours (after we conduct a private beta).

MuscleNerd: iPhone4 carrier unlock will be pushed after small test period (only @planetbeing and I have been able to test til now!)

Despite the ongoing iPhone 4 antenna issues, Apple just announced during their special press conference that they’ve sold 3 million iPhone 4 handsets in just 3 weeks. That’s a huge number, especially in light of the recent publicity.

Justin Horn, a forum moderator at TiPB, just watched Apple Store employees at The Falls in Florida tell people that they’d “sold out” of iPhone 4, and if they were at a certain point in line (i.e. further down than Apple had stock to cover) that they could start making their way home.

We’re betting this doesn’t include those with confirmed reservations, but if you were thinking of heading down just to try your luck… good luck.

We’ve seen lines go around (and around) the block, and mobs of people in front of the Apple Stores. Bigger lines than the iPhone 3GS launch, bigger than the iPad launch, some Apple employees are saying these are their biggest lines ever. And that’s with Apple doing pre-orders and starting deliveries yesterday.
